EQUIPMENT LAYDOWN UNIT

CHALLENGE: A one man client came to WMD Squared with a desire to improve upon a pipe handling tool. This product had no engineering specifications associated with it and no workable detailed drawings. The clients desire was to improve on the design and walk away from WMD Squared with a complete manufacturing package in order to have this product fabricated and replicated.

APPROACH: WMD Squared visited the customer’s site and saw the tool in action. Based upon the expertise that went into the tool our engineers were able to create another version of the laydown tool that would be far superior to its predecessor. It was to be faster and reach farther. Redesign began on some areas of the tool allowing it to have a much greater life span. Serviceability was also engineered into the design. Working drawings were created for production as well as WMD Squared’s MP (manufacturing package) Binder allowing Vektor to have a physical representation of every item that went into its new tool.

IMPACT: The tool went from a lifespan of 100 hours to 1000 hours. Vektor Equipment was therefore able to create an entire business model based off of renting and selling this laydown tool to multiple companies in the pipe handling industry.
