Casing Jack

Casing Jack

CHALLENGE: WMD Squared was tasked with designing a complete manufacturing package for a casing jack. Several design requirements were brought up in design review meetings such as making the first section 35’ instead of 30’, to increase the size of the second structure by 5’ so there was enough height for 90% of their jobs, and having only 2 sections to limit rigging time. Other requirements were for the design to not use cylinders, to be wide enough to bring a tong inside, to be 70’ total height, and to be capable of handling up to 50mph wind gusts.

APPROACH: WMD Squared submitted a complete engineering and print package consisting of machine prints, bill of materials for all purchased parts, spec sheets for those parts, assemblies, and weldment prints for manufacturing.

IMPACT: The full design package was completed, detailing the equipment down to the nut and bolt.  Fabrication for the structure went smoothly, as GD&T was applied to the structure during design, making it very clear to the fabricator how straight the structure and the welded rack gears needed to be to function appropriately.  The customer was happy with how quickly the unit was built.
