CHALLENGE: CAD’s drawings were taking an incredible amount of time to load, even with the best computers money could buy.
APPROACH: WMD Squared sent two engineers over to CAD Control Systems (CAD) to interview designers and investigate their workflow. After a good understanding of CAD operations, our engineers selected an appropriate data management software. We also restructured their drawing methodology, and made other workflow improvements. We took their part numbering system and extended it to include engineering, so that the Bill of Materials used by engineering would match manufacturing. In addition, the revision control, and overall workflow was created inside of the data management software (Inventor Vault). Engineers helped upload and get CAD’s library running while helping make revisions along the way as problems presented themselves.
IMPACT: CAD now has a much more efficient system with all of their product data at their fingertips. We were able to reduce model opening time by 50%, and design time by 30%. This helps them in sales and customer satisfaction as well as efficiency in their design department.
