CHALLENGE: WMD Squared was tasked with reverse engineering a skid designed and built by the customer so they could have a complete drawing package consisting of machined part prints, weldments, a general arrangement print, and bill of materials to quote out to outside shops as a turn-key package.
APPROACH: WMD Squared obtained all the spec sheets for the purchased components, then proceeded to download and model anything that was missing. We then planned several visits to the client to take measurements of the skid itself which was then modeled in Solidworks as a weldment and broken down into individual cut pieces to differentiate between waterjet, machined, and sawcut by the machine shop of their choice. An assembly was created with all the necessary hardware and a complete bill of materials was generated. WMD Squared consulted with the client as to any upgrades or changes they would like to add and was then tasked with designing a belt guard which was approved by the client.
IMPACT: The client was able to submit this new package to shops for quoting as a complete delivered unit.
