CHALLENGE: Caldwell Racing Technologies wanted to redesign and improve on mid-sections and clamp & swivels currently on the market. CRT worked with us using their own knowledge of where they needed improvements, and we began to tackle the design from the ground up.
APPROACH: WMD Squared worked with CRT to first decide which areas need to be strengthened. The side plates were thickened, and the swivel tube was redesigned using 2-piece billet aluminum. The mounting point for the ram typically takes a significant abuse, so it was designed to handle a significant amount of stress. The mid-section was developed to allow a centerpiece to be added or removed, which would allow it to accommodate 12” and 15” height clamps. The bottom mid-section was split into 2 halves to allow for fast machining of the interior profiling.
IMPACT: The top portion of the mid-section is designed to accommodate the CRT 2.5L and 3.5L powerheads, but other adapters are in the works to accommodate various other powerheads. The adapter for the Mercury 450R V8 is currently in the prototype phase, and several others are slated for release soon. The CRT Mid-Section aims to be stronger than anything currently on the market and be able to adapt to popular engines. The mid-section and clamp & swivel are the foundation for how your powerhead connects to your boat. Choosing a stronger setup is vital to protecting your investment of an expensive high-performance motor, and CRT hopes to provide that support with their newly designed systems.
