CHALLENGE: Premium Oilfield Services came to WMD Squared wanting to expand their product line of whipstocks and anchors to different sizes. In Premium’s search for getting new sized assemblies, they were getting quotes that were out of their budget due to companies claiming each model would have to be designed from scratch. WMD Squared knew that if the first part was created with the design intent of being able to resize and adjust parameters per an equation driven table, that being able to replicate new sizes would require minimal work.
APPROACH: Working with Premium Oilfield Services, WMD Squared reverse engineered one of their existing whipstock & anchor assemblies and created the models from scratch. From there the requirements for the new sizes were put into a chart form and new assemblies were created using the original modeling. Parts were scaled accordingly. In areas where scaling was not appropriate, WMD Squared worked with POS to determine what features could be adjusted to work as intended.
IMPACT: Premium Oilfield Services was able to develop new product lines that could be quickly created in a 3d print package for production. Whereas in the past when a customer had a specific need for a custom size where the off the shelf product line would not work, they could reasonably quote out a custom size for that application.
