CHALLENGE: MCR approached WMD Squared with a tool that already existed. They wanted it patentable and needed drawings for manufacturing. In addition they needed some modifications to the tool to achieve a new set of specifications. MCR also thought this would be applicable in subsea applications and needed a way to test its capabilities in order to open the VIV to the subsea market.
APPROACH:Engineers at WMD Squared began modeling the existing tool. They started patent research and came up with a design that satisfied the customers new set of operating parameters as well as patentability. While this tool was being designed engineers were keeping in mind how to test it for subsea applications. A test frame was created and manufactured and testing was done at Oceaneering facility in Morgan City, LA.
IMPACT:The customer walked away with a tool that had been corrected through design and a new patent. The tool also passed the subsea testing and is now useable for subsea pipe cleaning.
