Willem Mast is a senior mechanical design engineer at WMD Squared with 22 years of experience in design, engineering management, project management and engineering. Willem’s design positions have always included a leadership role since his first design position at MDS SCIEX designing the mechanical systems for mass spectrometers. His experience is quite varied across several industries which has given him substantial design flexibility he applies easily to projects at WMD Squared.
Prior to MDS SCIEX Willem worked for Halliburton in the wireline division, where he learned the tough skillset of a field engineer. Later he was exposed to industrial plant design for carbon black plant system retrofits, custom marine mooring equipment design such as fenders, bollards, for the consumer market and several unique catalog of designs he created for the US Navy NAVFAC.
His experience with hydraulics has been substantial while designing mass produced pipe handling equipment such as power tongs, drill pipe elevators, hydraulic catwalks, downhole packers, and 50ft dual natural gas powered turbine powered frac pumps units.
His software skillset includes 21 years of 3-D CAD experience with a variety of packages from AutoCAD to CATIA, including FEA analysis and exposure to ERP systems such as AS400, and Matrix One. His hobbies include his family of four energetic kids, multi week bicycle adventures, and geeking out on the latest engineering software or equipment. Willem loves to design.
